Neurological Examination of the Arm 2: Muscle tone

With patient relaxed:

  • Flex and extend the patient's fingers, wrists, elbows and shoulders.
  • Pronate and supinate the forearm.
  • Remind patient to relax, and shake hands with the patient, using random movements.
  • Observe for decreased (flaccid) or increased (spastic) tone.
